Each third weekend of September most of the more important museums, monuments and other French buildings are open during the european Heritage Days. Visitors can visit them and some cultural activities are held. In the 6th district, near by your hotel Best Western A la Villa des Artistes you will have a great European heritage day !

GRANDE CHAUMIERE  ACADEMY

In the legendary Montparnasse district, the most famous painters came to the Grande Chaumiere Academy to practice their art. Prominent figures taught there: René Ménard, Lucien Simon and especially Eugène Grasset, a major graphic designers of that era. And they taught people who would become masters : Bourdelle, Despiau Wlérick Zadkine, ...
The number and the qualities of the artists who attend the academy trainings are sufficient to understand the amazing reputation of this prestigious and magical place in the circuit of the Parisian arts and beyond, worldwide.

ZADKINE MUSEUM
Located near the Luxembourg Garden, the Zadkine museum, nestled in a garden full of sculptures, is a place of charm dedicated to the memory and work of the Russian-born sculptor Ossip Zadkine (1890-1967), who lived and worked here from 1928 to 1967. His house became his museum in 1982, where can be seen most of his work and collections.

Meet Ossip Zadkine

Meet Ossip Zadkine (1890-1967) who settled in Paris in 1909, as other artists coming from all over Europe , Archipenko, Chagall, Lipchitz, Modigliani. They all contributed to the outbreak of what is commonly called the first "School of Paris".

Zadkine and his “craze for Assas”
Visit walk with a Sketch session. In 1928, Zadkine wrote to his friend André de Ridder: " Come see my "craze for Assas" and you will understand how the life of a man can be changed because of a pigeon or because of a tree. "
